March 2023 Art Update - I did the thing I said I would never do

March 2023 Art Update

Freaking out because it’s already March! Paintings found their new homes this month and other paintings were begun! I also did something I swore I’d never do - get back on Instagram.

Instagram

A year and a half ago, I wrote an impassioned article about leaving social media. It became the best decision of my life and I became more social and productive as a result!

And 7 months ago when I started this business, I wanted to stay true to that sentiment. But as time has gone on, I’ve recognized the importance of having a presence on Instagram as an artist. As a business page, it gives me the opportunity to connect with my clients and get eyes on my work that would have otherwise never seen it.

Am I sacrificing my integrity by doing this? With proper boundaries in place to keep me from getting sucked back in, I hope not. But to all those whose advice to stay on Instagram I ignored - I’m sorry and follow me @mattiekarrstudio ;)

The Triptychs have found their new home!

Bye panels!

The triptych panels were loaded up and taken to Holy Name of Jesus church, ready to be installed. If you need an Easter mass to go to, the 5am Vigil will show a sneak preview of the main panels to generate some excitement and volunteers to install them!

Sacred Heart of Jesus

This painting also found its home with the Menghini’s!

I love how this painting turned out and as soon as inventory arrives, I’ll be making it available as a print!

St. Raphael

The final painting process has gone under way! After enlisting the help of two Benedictine soccer players (shout out to local sculptor Kate Marin for setting this up), I had all the reference photos I needed to create this digital mock up for Fr. Kendall.

Before starting the final painting, I always create a digital mock up so the client can make any adjustments.

It’s always intimidating starting a new painting. I know this sounds overdramatic, but each time, I get hit with anxiety and fear that I don’t know what I’m doing. This was no different!

So I took some deep breaths (into the belly, not the chest!), said a prayer, and decided to cover the canvas in a yellow base acrylic paint and lightly copy a projection of the design. Now I have a roadmap of where to go to continue the painting.

Live Wedding Painting

I’m excited to start offering my services in live wedding painting!

This relatively new trend involves an artist (like myself) painting the couple in a pose of their choice at their reception. This added entertainment allows guests to watch a painting come to life throughout the night culminating in an epic reveal for the couple who has been busy getting married!

With the help of Mary Kate Krause Photography, I did this sample painting for a recent client of hers as a surprise gift!

If you or someone you know is getting married and would like a reminder of their special day captured in a beautiful watercolor painting like this one, let me know. I’d be honored to help!

Thank You!

So much is happening in this season and I have not gotten tired of watching beauty bring joy (and sometimes tears) to people.

To keep this mission of beauty alive, I have you all to thank! If you know anyone who would appreciate having my artwork in their home, church, wedding, or business, please let me know!

Here’s a list of all that I can do:

Happy Easter!

-Mattie
