January 2023 Art Update - Catching Jesus’ Gaze in my Artwork

January 2023 Art Update

Well hot toddy, it’s a new year! I hope y’all have been keeping warm.

I’m not a fan of the cold, but I love the new projects coming up this year! I’ve been wrapping up this triptych project and starting on some exciting new pieces.

Nearly done with the St. Joseph Triptych!

I’ve changed St. Joseph’s face about 6 times this month, but I think I’ve finally landed on a color scheme I like. The background characters have taken forever, but they’re just about done. And I think the candles are really tying everything together!

Once I wrap up the finishing touches, the final panel for St. Gabriel will come in and these triptychs will finally be hung! Stay tuned!

One story I’d like to share about this piece: there was one particularly rough day that I was painting this month. I was feeling sad about a few things when the baby Jesus I’d painted caught my eye. His eyes held mine and in that moment, I felt God’s tender love for me. It was a beautiful moment I’ve never experienced before - the work of my hands loving me in return. I am discovering that though God wants to love others through my work, He also wants to love me through it.

St. Raphael

Next in the queue is a 5 foot portrait of St. Raphael the archangel. Drawing inspiration from the book of Tobit in the Bible, I’ve been collaborating with my client on which scene would best exhibit the qualities of St. Raphael - healer, guide, and protector.

Guess which thumbnail we ended up going with!

Prints

My Etsy shop has been booming! Head over to check out the prints available!

Commission Info!

For the beginning of this month, I made it a goal to make my pricing be more transparent. To that end, I’ve created a rate sheet that should help make things more clear for what I charge for commissions. If you’ve had an idea for a project, but weren’t sure where to start, this should help you out!

*These are just range estimates! The final quote depends on our consultation. Please reach out with your budget requirements to see what your options are*

I have availability to do art commissions, murals, and live painting events beginning in March. If you have an art project idea, please reach out!

I’m available to do consultation calls now. Click the button below to get on the calendar!

Thank You!

As always, thank you all for the support, encouragement, referrals, and purchases. I can’t do what I love without you! The beginning of the year is always a crazy time (Holiday Hangover, I call it) so I hope you are joyfully making it through!

God bless your February!

-Mattie
