November 2022 Art Update - Thanksgiving and Obedience
November 2022 Art Update
When people ask how I’m enjoying the self-employed life, all I can say is “I am living the dream!” I can’t help but give thanks upon thanks to God for calling me to walk on water.
Read on for updates on the Holy Name triptychs, my personal Narnia project, and a special 2023 announcement!
One triptych “almost” down, one to go!
I am speeding through these triptychs, but there is so much more to do do! The main section of “Pentecost” is finally complete, but I still need to paint St. Michael which will go on top.
The biggest thing helping my pace has been putting down the house paint before refining the faces with oil paint on top.
One thing I’m changing with this St. Michael panel is having a lighter hand with the lines. I noticed that with the previous panels, the thicker lines were hard to cover up.
So this time, I’m being much more careful and accurate with the line work so I don’t have to do as much “heavy lifting” with the fine tuning.
Narnia Illustrations
In my Oatley Academy mentorship, I’m trying to discover my “illustration style” so I can start sending a portfolio to publishers.
In a recent feedback session, I realized I need to truly explore this particular “flying horse” scene in a variety of poses, compositions, styles, and colors. Though it feels like I’m moving backwards at times, I know all of this work will help propel my work forward.
Miss Karr, at your service!
I’ll only be teaching one class a week for the semester, but I’m excited to work with these high schoolers to cultivate an appreciation for beauty and the skills to create their own!
Finally…
I’m sure by now you’ve gotten sick of my notifications about my new online print shop, by now! I also have an Etsy (but they’re cheaper when you buy through me directly!)
And of course, if there is an image you have been dying to have painted as an original work of art or a nursery/bedroom mural, please reach out! I’d love to help
I’m available to do consultation calls now. Click the button below to get on the calendar!
Thank You!
Sometimes I get nervous about the longevity of this art business, but then God reminds me that it’s His job to keep the clients coming, not mine. I only need to be obedient to what He’s calling me to: excellence in my art, fair and ethical business practices, and prayer. He will take care of the rest.
I’m looking forward to seeing how the end of the year wraps up and reflect on all that has happened this year. For you, I hope this upcoming final month of the year is filled with joy and peace in how you spent the last 12 months!
Happy Thanksgiving!
-Mattie
